En 1913 el filósofo Ludwig Wittgenstein descubre Skjolden, un pueblo noruego junto al fiordo de Sogn, al norte de Bergen. En ese tiempo su necesidad de buscar la soledad es muy intensa. Quiere estar lejos de Cambridge o Viena, de las obligaciones sociales y los tributos que la vida académica y burguesa le impone. En Skjolden, por tanto, podría al fin alcanzar a estar a solas consigo mismo, reconociéndose en el mundo y, sobre todo, madurando un combate con el lenguaje y el sentido de las cosas que puede acabar de una vez por todas con la Filosofía y la Metafísica.
